With the approval of the Prime Minister, efforts were made to set up courts for speedy disposal of rape cases

On Tuesday, the law ministry sent a summary to Prime Minister Imran Khan, calling for the establishment of courts to deal with rape cases as soon as possible.

The summary advised Prime Minister Imran Khan to give special powers to the courts of sessions and additional session judges to decide cases of abuse within 120 days.

Confirming the summary sent to the Prime Minister, the Law Ministry spokesperson said that after getting the approval of the Prime Minister, it would be sent to the President to issue ordinances in this regard.

He said a special anti-rape committee had already been set up, headed by Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Malika Bukhari.

The spokesman said they were also working on setting up anti-rape crisis cells at all district levels. He confirmed that the courts would be informed after the current approval.
